MRS. WALDO EVANS IS KILLED IN AUTO ACCIDENT

Sad news received in Grinnell announces the death of Mrs. Waldo Evans, who was fatally injured Monday in an automobile accident in San Diego, Calif. Particulars have not been received but it is known that Captain Evans, who has not been in good health, is in a San Diego hospital suffering from shock.

Captain and Mrs. Evans have many good friends in Grinnell who are deeply grieved by this information. Captain Evans enjoyed a brilliant career as a naval officer and also served as governor general of the Virgin Islands. When he retired from the sea he and Mrs. Evans settled in Des Moines to be near their niece, Mrs. W.T. Sherman, remembered here as Jeannette Ashton, but later they moved to Los Angeles to be near the sea and Captain Evans' old time naval friends. Before her marriage Mrs. Evans was Rose Pearson. Her brother, Will Pearson, was formerly a banker in Brooklyn.

Mrs. Ashton left by plane Monday night for San Diego.
