MRS. HELEN ECKLUND
Funeral Services for Mrs. Helen Ecklund, 87, of Brooklyn, were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, in the Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Mrs. Ecklund, widow of the late Clarence C. Ecklund, died Tuesday morning, June 3, 1986, in the Brookhaven Nursing Home, Brooklyn.
Rev. Raymond D. Moore, Pastor of the Grace United Methodist Church, officiated. The organist was Mrs. Sybil Kelley. Flower attendants were Mrs. Jean Van Ersvelde and Mrs. Barbara Schwiebert. Casket-Bearers were Jack Hall, Rollin Harder, Gerald Hall, Allen Waterbeck, Henry Van Ersvelde, and Balzar Kriegel. Interment was in the IOOF Cemetery, Brooklyn.
Helen Marguerite Latta Ecklund, daughter of Otto M. Latta and Grace McCarty Latta, was born January 31, 1899, in Marengo, Iowa, and died Tuesday, June 3, 1986, in the Brookhaven Nursing Home, Brooklyn.
Mrs. Ecklund came to Brooklyn with her parents as a young child and received her education in the Brooklyn School graduating from high school in 1916. Following graduation she worked for the Breckenridge Hardware and Rock Island Railroad. She was united in marriage to Clarence C. Ecklund, on April 27, 1923, in the home of her parents in Brooklyn. The Ecklunds made their home in Brooklyn.
Mrs. Ecklund was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, the UMW, and at the time of her death was the oldest living member of the church. Mrs. Ecklund was a member for over 50 years of the Chapter AK PEO; was a member of over 50 years and past president of the Brooklyn Chapter of the Eastern Star #131; and a member of the Francis Gallagher American Legion Post Auxiliary.
Surviving are her son, Edwin, of Loveland, Colo.; her daughter, Grace, Mrs. Robert J. Noonan of Cedar Rapids; her brother, Cadet Latta of Des Moines, seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Ecklund was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, her sister, Dorothy Harris; and one brother, Howard Latta.
