CLARA KINZER RITES TUESDAY
Mrs. Clara Elizabeth Kinzer, 86, the widow of Dr. W.R. Kinzer, died early Friday morning (July 6) at St. Francis Manor.
The daughter of James and Asenath Wilson Andrews, she was born June 17, 1887, at Marshalltown. She attended the Marshalltown public schools and was graduated from Marshalltown High School.
She was married to Walton Richard Kinzer Dec. 19, 1908, at her parents' home in Marshalltown. The couple had two children: James M. Kinzer of Toledo, Ohio, and Mrs. Calvin (Ruth) Johnson of Des Moines. Dr. and Mrs. Kinzer had lived in New Providence and Gilman during the early years of their marriage. Dr. Kinzer was superintendent of schools in both communities. Later he attended the School of Dentistry at the University of Iowa, graduating in 1915, then came to Grinnell to practice.
Mrs. Kinzer was a member of Chapter 47 of the Order of Eastern Star and the Attawasias Club. She was a member of the Quaker church but attended the United Church of Christ-Congregational while living in Grinnell.
Mrs. Kinzer was preceded in death by her husband in 1949; five brothers, Daniel, Edwin, William, Frank, and Raymond Andrews; and one sister, Mrs. Grace Thornbury. She is survived by her son and daughter; five grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Pemberton of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Luella Miller of Shenandoah, and Mrs. Helen Jarvis of Pasadena, Calif.
Funeral services for Mrs. Kinzer will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Leland W. Mann of the Mayflower Home officiating. Organist will be Mrs. Willard Heffner. Mrs. Kinzer had willed her body to medical science.
