Rev. Cyrus Morey, a former pastor of the M.E. Church at this place, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. M. Mooers, in What Cheer, Thursday, March 17th, 1890, at the ripe age of 73 years, 11 months and 16 days, of heart trouble, after an illness of nine weeks. The What Cheer Chronicle gives the following biographical sketch of his long and useful life:

"Mr. Morey was born in Greenbush, N.Y., April 7, 1816. He was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Martin, Aug. 26, 1837, who preceded him to the other world July 28, 1888. They were blessed with twelve children, four of whom, three girls and one son, survive them. Mr. Morey was united with the M.E. church in the year 1840. He began studying for the ministry and commenced preaching in 1848, and entered the regular ministry in 1851. He had been a devout believer in that religion and an earnest and zealous worker for years in his chosen profession and was a true, christian gentleman. He was well and favorably known and his friends were numbered by the hundreds wherever he made his home. It was his great desire to do good; kind and generous hearted to everyone and he will live in the memory of all who knew him. The four remaining children are: Mrs. D.L. Lawson and Mrs. W.M. Mooers of this city; Mrs. M.J. Cain, of Brooklyn, and J.W. Morey, who resides in Nebraska. The funeral services will take place at the M.E. church in this city to-day at 3 o'clock and will be conducted by Rev. Lewis, after which the remains will be taken to Brooklyn for interment. Funeral services will also be held at the Grace M.E. church at the latter place Saturday at 11 a.m. The four remaining children have the sympathy of the entire community.
