IRA BERCKHAN RITES CONDUCTED MONDAY

Last rites for Ira D. Berckhan, 71, were held Monday afternoon at two o'clock at First United Presbyterian church with the Rev. G.H. Hulsebus officiating. Organist was Mrs. Ed Bartachek.

Interment was in I.O.O.F. cemetery with J.L. McCluskey, Andrew Calderwood, John E. Roudabush, Lynn Montgomery, Albert De Meulenaere and Harvey Jones serving as pallbearers. Assisting with flowers were Mr. and Mrrs. Richard Williams and Mr. and Mrs. Quinton Montgomery.

Ira Dean Berckhan, son of Charles A. and Lizzie Berky Berckhan, was born at Eldridge, Iowa, September 5, 1891, and died August 30, 1963, at Community hospital in Grinnell where he had been admitted about a week previously. Mr. Berckhan had been in poor health for more than three years.

He moved with his parents when a small child to the community north of Brooklyn where he had lived the remainder of his life. He attended the rural schools and Brooklyn High school.

On March 27, 1918, he was married to Zillah Dalbey and four children were born to the couple. He was engaged in farming all of his life.

Mr. Berckhan was a member of the Presbyterian church, serving as an elder since 1939. He was a member of the Masonic lodge having served as worshipful master, and was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. He had served as director of the Brooklyn Mutual Telephone Company for over 20 years.

Surviving are his wife, Zillah, of Brooklyn; three sons, Keith of Brooklyn, Delmar of San Jose, Calif. and Ronald of Ft. Dodge; two sisters, Mary and Marjorie Berckhan of Los Angeles, Calif.; one brother, Dewey Berckhan of North Hollywood, Calif. and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and an infant daughter, Helen Irene.
