Kellogg, Ia., March 6, Special:

Funeral services for George Mahan, former resident of this place, were held at the Sheets Funeral Home Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock and burial was made in Our Silent City beside his wife who preceded him in death five years ago.

Mr. Mahan was born in Boston, Mass., November 18, 1847, and came to Iowa shortly after the Civil war in 1869, locating near Kellogg where he was united in marriage with Miss Julia Braley. They went to Harvey, Illinois, to make their home in 1890, and he was employed with the Craver Steel Works and later with the Austin company.

For a number of years he played an important part in the community life of Harvey serving as commissioner for two terms.

He had made his home with a niece for the past six years and had been in failing health for a number of years being very feeble for the past two years. Death came to him as he sat in his chair Wednesday evening.

Out of town attendants at the services Saturday included Mr. and Mrs. F.E. Kennedy, Mrs. Nelle Shaw and Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Stuart, of Grinnell, Mrs. Ralph Park of Harvey; Mrs. Elmer Failor of Slater, Iowa.
