Obituary dated Oct. 17, 1899

Elizabeth McKee Walters was born in Butler county, Penn., June 21, 1814, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. B. Shimer, in Brooklyn, Iowa, October 9, 1899, at 4:20 p.m., aged 85 years, 3 months and 18 days. She was united in marriage to Wm. Walters in Stark county, Ohio, May 24, 1835. She was the mother of nine children, seven of whom survive her. Two preceded her to the better land, one in infancy and one in manhood, after having served three years in the late civil war in defense of the Union. In the spring of 1864 she with her family removed to Iowa and settled in Brooklyn. Four years ago she was bereaved of her husband and shortly afterward met with an accident which confined her to her bed the remainder of her days. In 1837 she was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church, of which she remained a faithful, devoted member until death. The funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, at the home of her daughter with whom she spent the last four years of her life, conducted by her pastor Rev. A.V. Kendrick, and the remains were laid to rest in the I.O.O. F. cemetery.
