DOHERTY RITES AT WATERLOO NOV. 19

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the Chapel of Memories West in Waterloo for Alfred M. Doherty, 72, of Waterloo who was pronounced dead on arrival at Scroitz Memorial Hospital in Waterloo on Nov. 16 after suffering a heart attack while driving his car.

The car Mr. Doherty was driving accompanied by his wife, hit an unoccupied hosue in Waterloo after he suffered the attack. His wife was not injured.

The Rev. David Smith, pastor of the Berton Avenue Baptist Church which Mr. Doherty attended, officiated at the services. Burial was in the Garden of Memories in Waterloo.

The son of Calvin and Lucy Watts Doherty, Mr. Doherty was born Oct. 18, 1896 at Chillicothe, Mo. On Nov. 3, 1923, he married Mary Ruth Allen of Searsboro. The couple has lived in Waterloo since 1928 where he was employed at the John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works until his retirement.

Mr. Doherty was a member of Barracks 1276, World War I Veterans, and United Auto Workers Local 836.

Survivors include his widow Ruth; one daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Odessa) Woolsey of Waterloo; and one half-brother - Wesley Carlyle of Braymer, Mo.

Attending the funeral services from this area were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Allen of Grinnell, Mrs. Doherty's brother; Mrs. Hazel Tish and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Bahrenfuse, all of Grinnell, Mrs. Doherty's cousins; and Mr. and Mrs. Walsh of Barnes City, Mr. and Mrs LeRoy Johnston of Deep River and Mrs. Audra Johnson of Brooklyn, all cousins of Mrs. Doherty.
