ROLAND TROTH FUNERAL HELD SUNDAY

Funeral services for Roland Troth were conducted by the Rev. Howard Hayes Sunday afternoon, April 17, at the Steffy Funeral Home. Miss Alice Underwood was organist at the services.

The following served as casketbearers: Adrian Sams, Donald Crider, Frank Wheeler, Marcus Shearer, Erschel Smothers and Jack Van Cleave. Interment was in Montezuma's Masonic IOOF Cemetery.

Roland, son of Albert and Elizabeth Troth, was born in Cantril, Iowa, on Jan. 16, 1890, and passed away in Montezuma Friday, April 15. He was 76.

He attended elementary school and graduated from Cantril High School in 1907. While touring as a musician with a Chautauqua troop he met Mabel Van Fossen in Deep River, Iowa. They were married on June 26, 1912 and to this union three children were born.

Their early married life was spent in Deep River where Roland became a painter. In 1925 the family moved to Montezuma. Later they established a paint and wallpaper store in Montezuma.

Mr. Troth has been an invalid since 1951 and was cared for by his wife until her death in 1956. Since then he has been cared for by his daughter and son-in-law.

He was a member of Lafayette Lodge No. 52 AF & AM and the Knights of Pythias.

Mr. Troth was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one daughter, Mrs. Virginia Ritter.

He is survived by his son, Paul Troth of Linwood, Calif.; his daughter, Mrs. Darlene Pugh of Montezuma; three grandchildren, Mrs. Judy Widmer of Deep River, Mrs. Marilyn Monroe of Grinnell, and Mark Pugh, of Montezuma; and one great granddaughter, Kimberly Widmer.
