SALVADOR HAYES

Salvador Hayes was born in Summit county, Ohio, April 8, 1838, and was taken by his parents to Wisconsin when twelve years of age, living in that statte until 1859 when he removed to Chester, Iowa. He enlisted in 1861 in the 10th Iowa infantry, serving one year when he was honorably discharged for disability. Salvador Hayes was wedded to Miss Mary J. Hays December 21, 1964, and to this happy union six daughters and one son came to bless their home, all of whom are living.

The Hayes family moved to Franklin county, Nebraska, in the year of 1875. Mr. Hayes was a christian gentleman in the broadest sense of the term and was a member of the M.E. church. He was an earnest prohibitionist and was an energetic and enthusiastic worker in all reform movements for the betterment of the common people. Of him it can truthfully be said that he had not an enemy on earth. He was ever ready to assist a brother and would discommode himself to oblige a neighbor. No man on Macon prairie was so dearly beloved and none will be so greatly missed.

Mr. Hayes died at the home place near Macon, Nebr., Friday, Oct. 24, 1902, at 2 o'clock p.m. Funeral services were conducted in the Methodist church at Macon at 10:30 a.m. Sunday and the body was laid to rest in Franklin cemetery with military honors under the direction of the Ben Franklin post of that place of which the deceased was an honored member.
