CHARLES SMITH SERVICES HELD

Charles C. Smith, 84, of 326 West St., Grinnell, died Saturday noon at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Hugh A. Shiveley, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers were Keith Rose, Ray Williams, Robert Walter, Arnold Davis, Eugene Slaven, and John Anderson. Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of Jefferson and Vieanna Criswell Smith, he was born Nov. 3, 1892, at Mt. Pisgah, Ky. He attended schools near the family home.

On April 20, 1913, he was married to Frona Elizabeth Marcum at Mt. Pisgah. The couple came to Grinnell in 1928 and farmed southwest of town for 10 years. Mr. Smith then worked for the Great Western Railroad as a sectionman.

He is survived by five children, Mrs. Jim (Marie) McCarter of Cedar Falls, Harold Smith of Denver, Colo., Lyle J. Smith of Ft. Collins, Colo., Mrs. Loren Farris of Littleton, Colo., and Mrs. Raymond (Deloris Faye) Dale of Edwardsville, Kan.; 24 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frona, in 1973; two daughters, Eula Grace McGee and Neva Smith; two grandchildren; four sisters, Hettie, Elizabeth, Ollie, and Nettie; and a brother, William.
