Forrest Wesley McLain, 94, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006 at the Montezuma Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Montezuma.
His funeral service was Thursday, March 2, at Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma, with the Rev. Dr. George Salnave of the Montezuma Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment was at Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma. Watts Funeral Home of Montezuma was in charge of the arrangements.
Casket bearers were Larry Steele, Jim Jeffrey, Steve Cranston, Jim Cranston, Mark Wolf and Tom Cheney.
Honorary casket bearers were the gentlemen of the care center's coffee group.
Forrest was born March 17, 1911 in Artesia, New Mexico, the son of William and Blanche (Icenbice) McLain. He graduated from Colorado Springs High School and attended Colorado College. On Jan. 7, 1934, he was united in marriage with Stella McCommon and to this union two daughters were born. After their marriage, the couple moved to Iowa where they farmed in the Guernsey and Deep River area. In 1981, they retired and moved to Montezuma. He was a member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church. Forrest loved to reminisce about his growing-up years in Colorado, his love of the mountains and the time he spent working on Pikes Peak. Stella passed away Oct. 6, 1985. Following her death, he was united in marriage to Maxine Wolf on Sept. 18, 1987.
Forrest is survived by his wife, Maxine, of Montezuma; his two daughters and a son-in-law, Marlene Gwin of Sigourney and Beverly and Don Gray of Montezuma; four grandchildren, Denise (and Steve) Black of Webtser, Leland (and Anita) Gwin of Hickory, N.C., Dan (and Susan) Gray of Montezuma and Dianna Gray of Montezuma; two great-grandsons, Wayne and David Black of Webster; one brother, Robert (and Louise) McLain of Grinnell; a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Alvin and Midge McCommon of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Kathryn McCommon of Mesa, Ariz.; Maxine's two sons and their families, Ken (and Mickey) Wolf of Shelby, Mont., and Newell (and Jane) Wolf of Newton, and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella; a son-in-law, Wayne Gwin; and a sister, Neva Bryant.
Memorials in his name may be directed to the Amenity Hospice at Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
