SOUDER

Charles David Souder, son of Dr. and Mrs. C.H.L. Souder, was born in Englewood, Chicago, Dec. 24, 1892, and departed this life on June 15, 1913, at Buhl, Minnesota. In the early evening of that day he went for a swim in Mud Lake, in company with a friend who was a Wisconsin University student. The two had been swimming and diving but a short time when his companion noticed that Mr. Souder had suddenly disappeared from sight but thinking at first he had only dived again, did not attempt to rescue him until he came up the second time. Being a good swimmer, his friend did all in his power to save the young man, who acccording to the coroner and the undertaker, had been suddenly seized with cramps, but becoming exhausted himself, he was compelled to give up the struggle and ere he could bring help it was too late.

Mr. Souder spent his early boyhood in Chicago and Joliet and when he was twelve years of age, he removed with his parents to a farm near Rockwell City, Iowa, which has since been the family abode and in his home community he numbered his friends by his acquaintances.

He attended school one year at Pillsbury Academy, Owatonna, Minn. but for the past three years has been a student at Grinnell College. At the time of his death he was traveling in northern Minnesota for a general supply house in Duluth.

Mr. Souder joined the M.E. church in Englewood when but a mere lad and was affiliated with the same during the remainder of his brief life. He was an active worker in the home and College Y.M.C.A. He was an earnest, conscientious student, a young man of high ambitions and ideals, clean, pure and upright in his life and gave promise of a bright future. He was esteemed most by those who knew him best.

He will be greatly missed by his many friends, who join in heartfelt sympathy, with the remaining members of the family--his father and mother, a sister, Miss Attie, and brother, George, all of Rockwell City.

The funeral service was conducted Friday afternoon at two o'clock at the home of Mrs. George Relyea, in Joliet, Illinois, and interment took place in the family lot in Oakwood cemetery.
