LAST RITES SAID FOR ORAL ROSS
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Smith Funeral Home for Mr. Oral E. Ross, 72, of 1531 Elm St., Grinnell, who died Sunday at Fort Myers, Fla.
The Rev. William F. Overhulser, minister of the First United Methodist Church of Ames, officiated at the services. Mrs. Willard Heffner was organist, and Mrs. Noel Taylor was vocalist.
Pallbearers were Leonard Evans, Henry Gruenhaupt, W.E. Hamilton, Virgil W. Johnson, Gene McCurry and Bill Ritter.
Masonic rites were conducted by Carl Raltson of Redfield, Iowa, and members of Hermon Masonic Lodge No. 273 of Grinnell.
Burial was in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Mr. Ross formerly operated the Riding Academy and Stables at Grinnell College.
The son of William and Margaret Shanks Ross, Mr. Ross was born May 16, 1897 at Walnut, Mo.
On Oct. 28,1917, he married Gladys Pearl Richardson and to this union six children were born, five of whom survive.
Mr. Ross was a member of the Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys; five children--Leo and Clinton Ross, Mrs. Maxine Minard and Mrs. Donna Mills, all of Des Moines, and Larry Ross of Fort Myers, Fla.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and five brothers and sisters--Roy Ross of Des Moines, Mrs. Fern Thelke of Alden, Iowa, Glenn Ross of Anaheim, Calif., Leon Ross of Eugene, Ore., and Albert Ross of Seattle, Wash.
Mr. Ross was preceded in death by his daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Wilson, and two sisters, Mrs. Mable Field and Miss Ruth Ross.
