ALFRED H. BARTTER

The Rev. Alfred H. Bartter, 92, of the Mayflower Home died Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Mayflower Home Health Care Center.

Graveside services were conducted Saturday at Hazelwood Cemetery, followed by a memorial service in the Mayflower Home's Denison Chapel. The Rev. David B. Bowman, pastor of the United Church of Christ-Congregational, officiated. Music was provided by pianist Barbara Zacheis and vocalist Russelle Leggett.

Pallbearers were Barbara, Bradley and Kenneth Bartter, Greg Brown, Carol Lowy, Warren Louden, Ted Mokricky and the Rev. Homer Perry.

Memorials may be made to the Mayflower Home Human Needs Fund or to the Grinnell United Church of Christ-Congregational.

The son of Merton and Lena Reitsman Bartter, he was born Dec. 8, 1899, in West Park, Ohio. He graduated from West Park High School in 1917 and attended Oberlin College. He received a B.S. degree from the Chicago Theological Seminary and was ordained there June 3, 1928.

Mr. Bartter served pastorates in Gilman, Sioux Rapids, Madrid and Decorah before becoming associate superintendent of the Congregational Christian Conference of North Dakota. He later served pastorates in Kansas before retiring to the Mayflower Home in 1973.

He was married to Frances Louise Pratt June 30, 1924, at Cottonwood Lake near Redfield, S.D.

He is survived by four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clyde of Ridgeville, Ohio, and Clarence of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; and one sister, Alice Moes of Vermillion, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son, Robert; one brother, Merton; and three sisters, Jeanette Shepherd, Myrtle Wise and Dorothy Easton.
