MRS. S.E. GATES PASSES AWAY IN ROCKWELL CITY

Mrs. S.E. Gates an old resident of Grinnell passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M.L. Seeley, in Rockwell City, Iowa, Wednesday morning.

The Gates family moved to Grinnell in March 1888 and lived for a few years at 916 Summer St., the home now occupied by W.R. Scandrett. Later they moved to 1126 Elm Street where they lived for many years.

Mr. Gates and his youngest son, Elmer, conducted a grocery store known as "The Hustler Store" for a period of years. Mr. Gates died about fifteen years ago and his son, Elmer, then went into the local postoffice employ first as city mail carrier and later as clerk, finally moving to the Pacific coast.

Following her husband's death Mrs. Gates maintained her home here but spent a good deal of her time visiting among her children.
