GLEN 'RED' MAY

Glen "Red" May, 78, of Grinnell died of congestive heart failure Sunday, Nov. 7, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Todd Follette, pastor of the Grinnell First Friends Church, officiating. Organist was Alice Renaud. Burial was in Rock Creek Cemetery.

The son of Glen and Bertha Cook May, he was born Sept 4, 1921, near Newburg. He was raised on the family farm and attended rural school. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater.

He was married to Marvel Pickens Oct. 3, 1944, near Newburg. They lived in Newburg, Gilman and Grinnell. Mr. May owned and operated May's Trucking Service until his retirement in the early 1980s.

He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Sydney Thompson of Searsboro; two grandsons; three great-grandsons; and one sister, Bonnie Mason of Marshalltown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Danny; three sisters, Nellie Sutten, Billie Lee and Evelyn Briggs; and three sons, Roy, Delbert and Dean.

A Glen May Memorial Fund has been established, and contributions may be sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home.
