AN OBITUARY OF JACOB F. JONES

Jacob Finley Jones, son of Uriah and Elizabeth Jones, was born on the old homestead in Madison township, Poweshiek county, Ia., on Feb. 22, 1856, and died at the same place on Oct. 3, 1933, age 77 years, 7 months and 11 days.

On Dec. 24, 1876, he was married to Eva Sherwin. To this union twelve children were born, four having died in infancy, and Clifton at the age of 21 years.

Mr. Jones was one of a family of eight boys and two girls, all of whom preceded him in death, except one, Dr. Geo. W. Jones, of Lawrence, Kan., who was unable to attend the funeral.

Rarely do we find a man who has spent his entire life at the same place on which he was born, and only the day before his death, he walked all over the premises, apparently in very good health.

Many happy reunions were held at the old homestead during the last few years. On June 19, 1912, was held the last reunion of the first generation. For three days the eight sons and two daughters, along with many friends, roamed the scenes of their childhood.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife, Eva, and seven children, all of whom were present at the funeral: Harlan of Brooklyn, Ia.; Harvey of Toledo, Ia.; Frank of Toledo, Ia.; Dr. Lester of Sutherland, Ia.; Mrs. Daisy Littrell of Lincoln, Neb.; Mrs. Anna Milligan, of Grinnell; and Mrs. Dorothy Benson of Lincoln, Neb.; also eleven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the old home, conducted by Rev. Kite, and attended by a vast number of old friends and neighbors. The four sons and two grandsons, Harvey and Charles, acted as pallbearers and gently carried him to his resting place at Kent cemetery.

Relatives from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. R.I.? Jones, Spencer, Ia.; Mrs. Ida Wilson, Ruth Elaine Wilson, Miss Lotta Jones and Charles B. Jones, all of Breda, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Frazier, Mr. and Mrs. Wright Frazier of Anamosa, Ia.; Ira Manelaus, Blockton, Ia.
