He was the son of George W.C. Gillespie and Virtue Gillespie. He came to Iowa in 1865 and has lived on the same place all these years. He never married. For many years he and his sister Eulalia had made their home together.

Mr. Gillespie was the oldest of the family. He was an honest industrious citizen and will be greatly missed in the community in which he lived so long.

The funeral service was held from the late home, Thursday at 1:30. Rev. W.W. Woodburn conducted the service and Mrs. C.C. Hutchison and Mrs. Woodburn sang several selections. The pall bearers were Harry Gillespie, Paul Pugh, Will Adkins, Fred Young, Stacy Jordan and Albert Carlson. Interment was made at Mt. Pleasant cemetery.
