FUNERAL SERVICES HELD TUESDAY FOR MRS. MARY VEILE

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Veile, 83, were held Tuesday afternoon at Smith funeral home, conducted by the Rev. C.E. Kingsley of the First Baptist church.

Mrs. R.H. Auman was organist. Pallbearers were Vern Appleton, Ivan Armstrong, Ralph Evans, John Hotchkin, Clarence Mott and Guy Slaven. Burial was in Hazelwood cemetery.

Mary Elizabeth Smith, daughter of H.C. and Nancy Smith, was born in Huntsville, Tenn., March 22, 1871. She was the oldest in a family of seven children, and when only three years of age her family moved to the Grinnell area where she has lived for 80 years.

She was united in marriage in May, 1888, to Byron Veile of Grinnell, and to this union was born one daughter, Verna. She was preceded in death by her husband,, three brothers and a sister.

Following a long illness, she passed away at a local hospital March 28, 1954, just passed 83 years of age.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Charles Jenks of Cedar Rapids; a brother, John Smith, Des Moines; a sister, Mrs. Harriet Gunther, Bonners Ferry, Idaho; several nieces and nephews, two of whom were raised in her home, Mrs. Mildred Appleton, Newton, and Mrs. Betty Evans, Lynnville, and a host of friends.
