The Grinnell Herald; Jan. 2, 1931

(From the Montezuma Republican)

August, the son of Olaf and Katherine Olson, his original family name, was born at Oscarham, Sweden, Dec. 22, 1839, and passed away at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 1930, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T.C. Brown in Montezuma, five days after having attained the great age of 91 years.

Mr. Lofgreen came to America in 1868. He was variously employed at Rock Island, Ills. for some time but his main occupation all his lifetime was farming.

In 1871 he was united in marriage to Anna Lindholm at Rock Island. Of their eleven children, eight preceded father and mother to the beyond, Mrs.Lofgreen having passed away in 1925. Forty-four years ago Mr. Lofgreen came to Montezuma, where he has lived on farms nearby up until five years ago. Since then both father and mother have had a home, with all its comfort and care, with the daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. T.C. Brown. Not content with doing nothing, Mr. Lofgreen found a way of keeping busy by farming on town lots and even through last season, at his great age, had, as many in the community know, a good deal to show for his efforts.

He was a member of the Swedish Lutheran church always, his farm home often in years gone was open on Sundays to friends and neighbors as visiting ministers of that faith came to conduct divine services. In these last years, belief in God, the Bible and in Jesus Christ as the only sufficient Savior, were truths he loved and loved to have talked about.

Surviving are a son and two daughters, Oscar, of Montezuma, Mrs. Amanda Kilday of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Ida Brown, Montezuma; also a sister, Mrs. Emma Peterson of Aledo, Ills., and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted from the Troy Brown residence at 2 o'clock Tuesday, Dec.30, with the Rev. W.F. Vanderlip, pastor of the Presbyterian church, in charge. Interment was made in the Montezuma cemetery.
