OBITUARY.

SARAH BLANCHE SHOFFNER WALKER

Sarah Blanche Shoffner Walker was born in Kellogg, Iowa, on December 19, 1880, and departed this life on Sabbath, July 14th at 8:15 p.m., being 26 years, 6 months and 5 days of age. In 1891 she came to Grinnell. She was converted and united with the Baptist church when about 16 years of age, and has lived a devoted Christian life. She was a great lover of the Bible and this book was her daily companion. Never was she too weary or the hour too late for the Scripture reading and the prayer at night, and by daily living near the Master there was developed that sweet, saintly character that made her univerally beloved by all who knew her. Her Sabbath school class of boys deeply lament her death and that they were on her heart is evident from her devotion to them. In her last illness at one time she made a beautiful prayer and the nurse asking for whom she was praying she replied: "It is for those boys." Her many acts of kindness in times of sickness and trial can only be noted here. They are fondly cherished in the hearts of those whom she loved.

October 3, 1906, was her bridal day. What a beautiful day it was and how happy were she and her lover, James Elton Walker, as they took the vows in the presence of God--vows which it has been a pleasure to keep. Their married life was most happy. Their joy seemed complete when the little girl came to the home. Many were their plans and bright were their hopes as they fondled their darling--Alice Lorena.

Alas, only too quickly the summons came. So sudden we are stunned by the blow. It seems all a dream.

Even before her sickness she was apparently conscious that the end was near. She laid away her bridal dress, saying: If I should go I want to be buried in my wedding dress." Patiently she bore the suffering. On the beautiful Sabbath day she lingered while the sun sank slowly in the west and as day departed peacefully she fell asleep. She had come on the Sabbath and gone on the Sabbath and her life spoke so sweetly of Sabbath rest and peace.

She leaves a stricken husband and an infant child; two sisters, Mrs. S.H. Moore of Springfield, Mo., and Mrs. Lorena Learned of Miles City, Mont.; two brothers, Lester of Montana, and Frank of this place, and many relatives and friends to mourn her untimely death.
