ESTHER S. MARVIN

Esther Seleana Marvin, 84, of Altoona and formerly of Tama died on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services for Esther Marvin will be held Saturday, Aug. 30, at 10:30 a.m. at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama, with pastor Jerry Avise-Rouse officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo.

Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Born in Grundy Center on March 31, 1924, she was the daughter of Harry I. and Emma Brady Hansen. She graduated from high school in Toledo.

In 1942, she married Bernard L. Marvin Sr., but the couple later divorced. In 1957, she married Charles Robert Marvin.

She worked at Kiowa Corp for 20 years as a machinist. Hobbies included sewing, crocheting, bowling and shopping.

She is survived by four children, Kay Stevens of Des Moines, Bernard "Butch" Marvin Jr. of Tama, Deb Taylor of Tama and Sheryl Collinson of Toledo; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Hansen of Marshalltown; a sister, Zona Clark of Marshalltown; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; two daughters, Carol Marvin and Siretta Blocker; a son, Dennis Marvin; a grandson; a great-grandson; three brothers, Alfred, Jack and Harry Hansen; and a sister, Lorraine Kriegel.
