WATERLOO RITES HELD FOR FORMER KELLOGG RESIDENT

Several Grinnell and Kellogg relatives attended the funeral of Mrs. Amanda Gibson Shelton at Waterloo Monday afternoon, June 6. She was the widow of Hollis Shelton, Waterloo railroad man and World War II veteran. Mrs. Shelton was born at Smith Grove, Ky., came to Kellogg at an early age and resided there until her marriage. During the World War she had the distinction of being one of the few women bus drivers in Iowa.

Relatives who were at the funeral included Marion Gibson, a brother, and his wife; Mrs. Ethel S. Keeton, an aunt; Mrs. Paul Jurgenson of Grinnell and Mrs. Flora Fiser of Kellogg. Another aunt, Mrs. Amanda Stewart of Kellogg was unable to attend because of illness. Mrs. Patricia Ann Warren, Mrs. Shelton's daughter, from El Monte, Calif., was also there and returned to Grinnell for short stay with relatives until returning home Wednesday morning.

Mrs. Shelton succumbed to cancer after several month's illness. Her brother, Mr. Gibson, was with her as much as possible during that time. Mrs. Shelton's other brothers and stepmother attended from Kokomo, Indiana. Several relatives in Waterloo survive. Burial was in Garden of Memories cemerery there.
