XIMENA CADWALLADER BOYLE

Ximena Cadwallader was born at Mahoning, Pa., May 30th, 1847, and moved to Illinois with her parents when two years old, afterwards moving to Brighton, Iowa, where most of her girlhood was spent.

She began teaching at an early age and taught most of the time until Aug. 16, 1877, when she was married to John Boyle in Washington Township, Poweshiek county, where they have since resided.

To this union were born four sons and one daughter, Charles and Leslie who are in California, William and Mrs. A.C. Jones who were at her bedside, also Mrs. F.O. Brown whom they took into their home and heart as a daughter when young.

The youngest son preceded the mother to the other shore.

Mrs. Boyle was converted and joined the Congregational church at Chester Center, north of Grinnell in 1869. Afterwards she joined the Friends denomination and helped to organize the church at Oak Grove, ever being a faithful member, serving efficiently in the many responsible places in which she was placed.

She was a loving wife and mother, a kind neighbor, ever ready to lend a helping hand, especially in times of sickness, unselfishly serving the Master, and active in good works, until prevented by failing health.

She departed this life Jan. 3rd, 1909, aged 61 years, 7 months and four days. The services were held in Sugar Creek church, conducted by Rev. Robt. Lincoln of Washington township assisted by Clark Brown and W.P. Robertson, and were attended by a large circle of relatives and friends who testified to the worth of the good woman who will be much missed and mourned.

The pall-bearers were P.T. Cope, H.M. Ratcliff, L.S. Howell, H.A. Russell, Andrew and H.W. Lincoln.

The body was laid to rest in Sugar Creek Cemetery.

Among those from abroad who were present at the services in pay their last respects to the departed were her nephew and niece, Asa and Miss Bessie Booton of Abington, Ill., her brother-in-law, L.P. Hanson of Marshalltown, Miss Lizzie Dicks of Marshalltown and Miss Lucy Hardgrave of New Sharon.
