MRS. E.L. LEWIS PASSES AWAY

Polly Jane Rice was born in Wayne county, Kentucky, Aug. 24, 1843, and died at her home in Grinnell April 5, 1943, at 8:00 o'clock.

She came to Iowa when a young girl, April 28, 1868, with her parents. When a young woman she was united in marriage to George Ryan, and to this union were born two children, Mrs. E.E. Lyday of Hollywood, Calif., and Joseph Ryan of Yakima, Wash. Later, after Mr. Ryan's death, she married Mr. E.L. Lewis and to this union were born two girls and five boys. Two girls and two boys and her late husband preceded her in death.

She leaves to mourn her death a daughter and four sons and three brothers. The children are Mrs. E.E. Lyday, Joseph Ryan, Will of Dexter Springs, Kans., Fred of Fort Dodge, and Ray at home. She also leaves a grandson and three brothers. The brothers are John and Edward Rice of Grinnell, and Preston of Newton.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her death was unexpected as she had only been ill a couple of days.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Snyder's undertaking parlors in charge of Rev. Robert Lincoln. Two songs were sung by a mixed quartet. Burial was in the Rock Creek cemetery.
