MRS. EVA HOWELL, 87, DIES FRIDAY; RITES TUESDAY

Funeral services will be held at the Bethel church at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday for Mrs. Eva May Howell, 87, who died at her home Friday afternoon. She had been ill since October.

Dr. G.S. Bruland of the Grinnell Methodist church will be in charge of the funeral services. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home.

SURVIVORS

Survivors are: two daughters, Ellen and Blanche; a son, Harvey; two grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, all of Grinnell; two brothers, Frank Vaughan of Madison, Wis., and Albert Vaughan of Sunnymead, Calif.; and a sister, Mrs. Arena Hatfield of Cleveland, Texas. Her husband, Alfred Howell, died in 1952.

TAUGHT SCHOOL

A lifelong resident of this area, she was born at Kellogg Jan. 5, 1870, one of 14 children. After graduating from Kellogg high school, she taught school in Jasper county.

Eva May Vaughan was married to Alfred William Howell at Kellogg on Nov. 23, 1892. The Howells then moved to a farm two miles north of Bethel.

TO GRINNELL IN 1931

In 1916, they moved to a farm in Westfield and then, in 1931, they came to their Grinnell home at the west city limits.

Mrs. Howell was active in the Methodist church, the Westfield Ladies Aid, and the WCTU.

PALLBEARERS

Pallbearers at the funeral on Tuesday will be: Robert T. Ashby, David Krumm, Jacob Krumm, Lawrence Decatur, James Peak and George Selle.

Music will be by Mrs. Wallace Williams, pianist, Mrs. Lehrl Fritz and Mrs. Cornie Dunsbergen.
