RAYMOND KALINAY

Raymond "Bud" Kalinay, 67, of rural Chelsea died Sunday, Oct. 20, at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Brooklyn, with the Rev. Joe Rogers officiating. Organist and soloist was Angie Hawkins. Pallbearers were Robert, Craig, Jon and Lee Kalinay, Joe Balvin and Jeremy Holland. Honorary bearers were Dick Kolash, Paul Suchanek, Dean Suchanek, Donald Behounek, Ernie Podhejsky and Joe Plesak.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn.

The son of Louis and Lucille Plesak Kalinay, he was born Aug. 31, 1929, near Chelsea. He received his education at St. Joseph's School in Chelsea, as well as in the Chelsea public schools, graduating from high school in 1946. He farmed with his father after graduation.

Mr. Kalinay served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. He later worked at Hartwick Lumber and the Rock Island Railroad, and he was a supervisor at Donaldson Co. in Grinnell for 30 years, retiring in 1985.

He was married to Elsie DeRycke Feb. 6, 1951, in Brooklyn.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Brooklyn and Jannings Bradshaw American Legion Post No. 39, Belle Plaine.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, Robert of Chelsea, Ronald of Kansas City, Mo., and James of Tama; one daughter, Diane Kilmer; one brother, Roger of Pierre, S.D.; three sisters, Evelyn Ryan of Chelsea, Florence Balvin of Chelsea and Veronica Brush of Quincy, Ill.; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Lawrence.

A memorial fund has been established and contributions may be left with the Nevenhoven Funeral Home in Brooklyn.
