Edward Martin Eriksen was born March 16, 1883, son of Erik and Caroline Eriksen, near Malcom, one of six children. His childhood was spent on the family farm located 9 miles from Grinnell. Here he grew into manhood and lived for several years following his marriage on Janaury 11, 1911, to Martina Engstrom. They also resided on a farm near Grinnell for a few years prior to their move to Clarion, Iowa, in 1927, where he resided on the same farm until his death. His wife preceded him in death on December 15, 1955.

He is survived by two sisters, Lana and Ella, Mrs. Harold Evans and Mrs. E.N. Conter, respectively, of Des Moines; and a niece, Joan, Mrs. R.H. Laird, whom the Eriksens reared as their own child from infancy.

Having been baptized in infancy at the Trinity Lutheran Church near Malcom, he continued in this faith until after his marriage. He and his wife belonged to the Grinnell Congregational church, transferred memberships to the United Presbyterian Church in Clarion. Burial was in Clarion Evergreen cemetery with Rev. J. Curtiss Russell officiating. Pallbearers were Leslie Archerd, Alvin Benson, Anton Anderson, Berton Ross, Gordon Carlson and Claude Sankey.
