GRINNELL'S FIRST SCHOOL TEACHER DIES IN LOS ANGELES

Dr. E.C. Bliss has received word of the death of his aunt, Mrs. Lucy Bixby Bliss, who passed away at her home at 5646 Aldama street, in Los Angeles, Calif., on Thursday, July 11. She was 97 years old. She is survived by two daughters, Misses Laura and Annabelle Bliss. Services were held Saturday, July 13, at the Cress Highland Park Chapel. Interment was in Inglewood cemetery.

Mrs. Bliss was the youngest daughter of Sumner Bixby, who moved to Grinnell in 1854. She was the first school teacher to teach in Grinnell.

In 1858 she was married to Marshall Bliss and they lived in Grinnell many years.

The last years of Mrs. Bliss' life were spent with her daughters in Los Angeles.
