PAUL F. BACON

Paul F. Bacon, 83, of Crescent, formerly of the Grinnell and Montezuma areas, died Friday, Dec. 29, at Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital in Council Bluffs.

A graveside service was held Tuesday at Pleasant Township Cemetery, Ewart, with the Rev. Eldon Pals of Newton officiating. Pallbearers were Wilbur Baltisberger, Jim Jeffrey and Alan, Glenn, Gary and Dale McKeag. The Grinnell American Legion Post conducted graveside rites. Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

The son of Harry Hiram and Jennie Mae Esler Bacon, he was born July 28, 1917, in Newburg. He was a 1935 graduate of Newburg High School and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was married to Mildred Meigs Feb. 14, 1946, in Grinnell, and the couple farmed near Ewart for many years. Mr. Bacon retired in 1979 and moved to Crescent in 1990.

He was a member of the Grinnell American Legion, a life member of the VFW in Montezuma and served as men's chairman of the Pleasant Township Farm Bureau. He also served as Pleasant Township clerk for 20 years and was a member of Wally Byam Caravan Club International, an Airstream Trailer club, serving as president of the North Iowa Unit.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Pauline Criswell of Montezuma and Beverly Amin of Omaha, Neb.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. His parents and two sisters preceded him in death.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
