MAXINE F. MOHR, 81

Mrs. Maxine F. Mohr, 81, of Brooklyn, died Saturday, June 9, 2007, Grinnell Regional Medical Center, Grinnell.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12, at the Nevenhoven Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Rev. John Reynolds Jr., pastor of the First Presbyterian Church officiated. The musician was Marilyn Kriegel. Honorary bearers were Brian Mohr, Michael Mohr, Mark Mohr, DeAnn McBurney, Neal Flander and Eric Flander. Interment was in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established for the First Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn.

Maxine Fern Bolen Mohr was born September 15, 1925, to Alfred and Alice Willetts Bolen. She was born in Poweshiek County and lived there all of her life. She received her education in the Brooklyn school. On January 23, 1943, she married Harold Raymond Mohr at the Presbyterian parsonage in Brooklyn.

She worked in the glove factory at Grinnell and later at the Brooklyn Cafe. After World War II, she and her husband operated Mohr's Cafe. She also worked at the Brooklyn Municipal Light Plant and the Brooklyn Grocery Store for many years. She also kept books for her husband. Maxine and her sister, Elsie, worked together cleaning houses. Maxine was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church where she helped with Sunday School. She was also active with the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. Maxine was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for many years.

Maxine's biggest joy was her family. She enjoyed going to her grandchildren's activities during school and later in college. She like watching her grandchildren play baseball, basketball, football and going to stock car races. Maxine enjoyed playng cards, playing golf and crocheted.

Surviving are her husband, Harold; a son, Charles (Teresa) Mohr of Spencer; a daughter, Patty (John) Flander of What Cheer; six grandchildren, Brian (Heather) Mohr, Michael Mohr, Mark Mohr, DeAnn (Scott) McBurney, Neal Kristin) Flander and Eric Flander; and six great-grandchildren, Chole Mohr, Alyssa Simpson, Beau Flander, Ben Flander, Nate McGinnis and Jake McGinnis.

Her parents and four sisters and their spouses, Mildred (Lumir) Besick, Darlene (Jake) Hiner, Gertrude (Harry) *Hovart, and Elsie (Jim) Riggs preceded her in death.
