OBITUARY

Edward Jones, a notice of whose death appears elsewhere in this paper, was born September 9, 1820 in North Wales. When an infant his parents moved to Staffordshire, England, where he remained till thirty-one years old. Coming to this country in 1851, he settled in Pennsylvania where he remained till the close of the war. In 1866 he removed to Iowa where he settled in Mahaska county three and a half miles east of New Sharon. Five years ago he moved to this city where he has since made his home with his daughter, Mrs. B.F. Sharer.

The deceased was married in England in 1849, his companion of fifty seven years and six children, surviving him. Three children preceded him in death.

When the war opened he heard his country's call and enlisted in Co. I of the 2nd Virginia Regiment where he bravely endured the hardships of army life for three years and six weeks and was honorably discharged.

For over half a century he has been an earnest member of the Methodist church which he joined after being converted shortly after coming to this country. He was loyal to his church and his Master, being a regular attendant at morning and evening services every Sabbath while his strength endured. In the Thursday evening prayer meeting his ready testimony and prayer were an inspiration and a help to others.

His life was one of hard service and toil which he performed faithfully and willingly for the family whom he loved and by whom he was loved as only a kind parent can be loved. His memory is a blessing for his bereaved wife and children.
