MR. HOLCOMB RITES SATURDAY

Lester L. Holcomb, 75, of 90 Fourth Ave., Grinnell, died Thursday, Dec. 22, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sam Reaves officiating. Organist will be Naomi Reaves. Pallbearers will be Norman Jones, Buford Isaac, Denny Mitchell, Kenneth Saunders, Leroy Smith and Gean Tiedemann. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of George and Sarah Johnson Holcomb, he was born June 18, 1913, at Drakesville. He attended school in Searsboro.

On Jan. 9, 1935, he was married to Viola Mitchell at Montezuma. The couple farmed near Taintor and from 1942 to 1951 farmed southeast of Grinnell. Mr. Holcomb later worked as a carpenter for Mithelman Construction Co.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Jerry of Grinnell and Russell of Conway, Ark.; two daughters, Judy Macomber of Kirksville, Mo., and Margaret Ann Meek of Grinnell; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Clarence of Packwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, William; one grandson; and eight sisters.
