ADA ELIZABETH HOWELL

Ada Elizabeth Howell, daughter of John B. and Amanda Mirtis Sylvester Sparks, was born west of Lynnville, Iowa, August 28, 1880, and departed this life on Sept. 5, 1959, in the Happy Hour Rest Home in Grinnell at the age of 79 years, nine days.

She lived near Lynnville most of her life. She spent five years near Altoona, 19 near New Sharon and the last eight years in Grinnell. She graduated from Lynnville high school.

In early life, she became a member of the Methodist Protestant church near Sully, transferred to the Methodist Episcopal church and then to the New Sharon Methodist church where she was a member at the time of her death.

She was a member of Fanny Taylor Rebekah Lodge and then transferred to Holly Rebekah Lodge.

On August 16, 1898, she was united in marriage with Albert Howell at the parental home. To this union two children were born: Glenn Howell of near Newburg and Mrs. Henry (Wilma) Steffen of near Malcom.

She is survived by her husband Albert; son, Glenn; daughter, Wilma; four grandsons, Harold, Keith and Clinton Howell, and Marvin Steffen; one granddaughter, Ada Marie Steffen; seven great grandchildren, Johnny, Ruth, Mary Ann, Jimmie, Roger, Judy, and Tommy Howell; one sister, Mrs. Marion (Orpha) Hammer; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Effie Sparks; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by both parents; two sisters, Mrs. Daisy Burnham and Mrs. Minnie Bushong; and two brothers, Ernest Sparks in infancy and Ralph Sparks.

Funeral services were held Sept. 8th from the Lynnville Friends church with the Rev. Carl Byrd officiating. Vocal music was furnished by Mrs. Harvey Gause and Mrs. Clarence Renaud and organ music by Mrs. Howard Macy. Graveside services were conducted by the Rebekah lodge.

Pallbearers were Harold Howell, Keith Howell, Clinton Howell, Everett Fenner, Charles Fenner, and Clair Fenner. Interment was in Woodland cemetery.
