FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. BRAINARD

Funeral services for Mrs. D.W. Brainard were held from her late home, 528 Broad street, Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Eva McCoy of Marshalltown, pastor of the First Spiritualist church of that city. Interment was at Hazelwood cemetery.

Pallbearers were: F.P. Marvin, Will Nelson, A.A. Legg, L.F. Selle, Sam Forsythe and Tom Godfrey.

Susie M. Kingdon was born December 21, 1841 at Stafford, New York. On January 1, 1863 she was married to Daniel Webster Brainard. To this union was born one child, Lewis, who died in infancy.

The couple moved to Iowa in 1869 settling on a farm near Malcom where they lived for 16 years before moving to the home in Grinnell where they spent the remainder of their lives. For 56 years the couple lived together happily, sharing the cares of early pioneers and joys of living in the new country. In 1913 they celebrated together their 50th wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Brainard was baptised and raised in the Episcopalian faith.

In 1893 she joined the Rebekah lodge and as long as her health permitted was an active member. In later years when she was unable to attend the meetings her thots and interest were all with the lodge.
