M. MCCULLOUGH OF SEARSBORO DIES

Searsboro, Ia., Sept. 8, Special:

William Mitchell McCullough was born at Independence, Iowa, Dec. 5, 1864, and passed away at his home in Searsboro Sept. 1, 1931, at the age of 66 years, 8 months and 26 days.

He was married to Nevada Oates of Wapello, Iowa, in 1888, and is survived by his widow and four children, Mayo of Whitewater, Manitoba, Canada; Loraine of Trayner, Saskatchewan, Canada; Dee of Searsboro, and Mrs. Paul *Cagley of Waterloo. An infant son preceded him in death. In additon to his immediate family he leaves one sister, Mrs. Ora Simms of Iowa City; five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends to mourn his death.

Mr. McCullough began railroading at the age of sixteen and has been in that service ever since, not only in Iowa but in many other states.

In his eight years at Searsboro Mr. McCullough was a loyal Odd Fellow, a civic and community booster. He was an instigator of the Boy Scout movement, an active attendant of the Methodist church, and just preceding his death had been elected on the financial committee.

The community deeply regrets the loss of this respected citizen.

Funeral services were held at the M.E. church Friday afternoon at 1:30, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. Richard Sneed. A quartet composed of Pauline Vincent, Mrs. Veta Richards, Glenn Bowen, Frankie Brown, with Adelaide Baker at the piano, sang "In the Sweet Bye and Bye," "The City Four Square" and "Saved By Grace." Pallbearers were members of the I.O.O.F. lodge. The Rebekah and Odd Fellow lodges attended in a body. The many floral offerings were beautiful.

The two sons in Canada were unable to attend. Relatives from out of town who attended were a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Loraine McCullough of Trayner, Canada, a brother-in-law, Mr. Fisher, and two daughters and son and wife of Wapello; a sister, Mrs. Simms, and daughters of Iowa City; a cousin of Mrs McCullough from Muscatine, and friends from Des Moines.

The I.O.O.F. burial rights were read at the grave by parties from Grinnell.
