ALEXANDER HUNTER

Alexander Hunter was born on March 18, 1884, in Jasper county, Iowa. At an early age he moved with his family to Cedar Rapids, where he attended the public schools.

As a young man, "Ike," as he was called by his many friends, was employed by Nyers Brothers, plumbers, and later on he became a fireman on the Rock Island Railroad.

When he came to Grinnell, he was employed by the Iowa Southern Utilities company for a number of years.

Mr. Hunter was a member of Hawkeye Lodge No. 27 H. of L. F. & E., and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

For the past 20 years he had been in poor health, a part of which time he was confined to a wheel chair.

Mr. Hunter passed away at University hospital in Iowa City, at 4:45 p.m. March 24, having just passed his 62nd birthday.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife, Mrs. Lizzie Hunter, who cared for him devotedly while he was ill, two daughters, Mrs. Frank Davis of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. C.E. Chambers of Portsmouth, Va., four grandchildren, Beverly Rae and Patricia Ann Chambers and Barbara June and Larry Frank Davis, a sister, Mrs. C.B. Demery of Cedar Rapids, and three brothers, R.J. Hunter of Sutter Creek, Calif., Allen of Grinnell and James of Moline, Ill.

Ike had a great many friends and was especially fond of children. He derived a great deal of pleasure from the visits of those in the neighborhood.

Funeral services were conducted March 26 from the Rohn Chapel in Cedar Rapids by the Rev. D.E. Skiles of Grinnell. The body was laid to rest in the family lot at Linwood cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
