O.W. BLACK WAS AN OLD SETTLER

One of the Pioneers of This Community Passed Away Wednesday Morning.

FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD SUNDAY AFTERNOON

Mr. Black Was 88 Years Old--Death Followed a Brief Illness from Apoplexy.

The sudden death of O.W. Black, who passed away Wednesday morning at the home of his son, F.W. Black, west Sixth avenue, removes a long time resident of the community and a man who was admired and respected by all who knew him. Mr. Black had reached the advanced age of 88 years, having celebrated his 88th birthday last March.

While enfeebled by his age, Mr. Black had enjoyed a reasonably good health until he was suddenly stricken with apoplexy about ten o'clock Tuesday night. His death followed soon after, at 4 o'clock Wednesday morning.

He is survived by three sons, F.W. Black,of Grinnell; M.E. Black, of Mitchellville; and E .A. Black,of California, and six daughters Mrs. W.C. Fenderson, Mrs. Mike Garrigan, and Mrs. H.P. Jacobs, of Grinnell; Mrs. J.P. Dale, of Greenfield; Mrs. J.G. Horsford,of Mitchellville; and Mrs. W.L. Quaintance, of New Sharon.

Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon from the F.W. Black home, conducted by Rev. W.J. Todd. E.A. Black is expected in time for the funeral.
