W.C. SEWARD RITES HELD

W.C. "Bill" Seward, 85, of Wellman, formerly of Grinnell, died Sunday morning at the Shenk Nursing Home in Wellman.

Funeral services for Mr. Seward were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Hugh A. Shiveley, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Organist was Joan Schneekloth, and pallbearers were Dick Emmert, Donovan Evans Herschel Griffith, Wayne Gropper, Lavern Kelm, and Sonny Schneekloth. Burial was at Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom.

The son of George and Sarah Tolly Seward, he was born Oct. 30, 1891, at Numa, Ia. He attended school at Harvard, Ia.

On April 18, 1916, he was married to Mary Elizabeth Mitchell at Corydon. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Seward lived in Wellman and later moved to Grinnell. Following the death of his first wife, he was married to Myrtle Hill on June 27, 1964.

Mr. Seward was a section foreman for the Rock Island Railroad for 42 years.

He is survived by his children, Mrs. Austin (Edna) Hall of Los Angeles, Calif., and Jack Seward of Wellman, six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both his wives; his parents; a daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Kathryn) Schildre; a brother and two sisters.
