OBITUARY.

MRS. NANCY SATCHELL

Nancy Moore was born in Sangamon, county, Ohio, March 24, 1818. At the age of four years, she moved with her parents to Logan county, Ill., where she was married to J.W. Satchell March the 4th, 1841, the same day W.H. Harrison was inaugurated president of the United States.

To them seven children were born, five of whom survive their mother. Her husband preceded her to the better world April 18, 1898. Of the five children--L.W. Satchell and Mrs. J.M. Morris of this city, M.N. Satchell of Gardner, Kas., and Mrs. E.S. Whittaker of Minneapolis were present; one son, S.R. Satchell of Odebolt, Ia., being unable to be present.

She joined the M.E. church while a young girl, and among her most pleasant recollections were thoughts of those early days of Methodism. That grand old standard bearer, Peter Cartwright, one of the most noted early Methodists in this country, was her friend, and she often called to mind his characteristic sermons. For the last four years she has made her home with Mrs. J.M. Morris and has resided in Grinnell and Poweshiek county for 60 years. She died at 2 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 1902, at the advanced age of 84 years, 7 months and 15 days. Funeral services were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.M. Morris, on Monday, and were conducted by her pastor, W.F. Stoddard.
