LOUIS E. HIGDON

Louis E. Higdon, 90, passed away at St. Francis hospital on Thursday, March 13, 1958, after being hospitalized over a year.

Mr. Higdon formerly farmed just south of Grinnell for over 60 years. He was born the son of James Thomas and Mary Elizabeth McDaniel Higdon in Daviess County, Kentucky, on March 9, 1868. He was one of 15 children. On Jan. 13, 1902, he was united in marriage to Catherine Devereux at St. Brendan's Catholic church in Searsboro, Iowa. Mrs. Higdon preceded him in death May 2, 1952.

Surviving are eight children; Sister Mary Annette of Clinton; Sister Mary Louise of Denison; James, Frank, John and Joseph of Grinnell; Mrs. Keith Gorham of West Des Moines; and Mrs. Paul Schmitz of Grinnell.

Mr. Higdon is also survived by 12 grandchildren and a brother and sister--Hilliary Higdon of Owensboro, Ky. and Ellodee Higdon Neel of McQuady, Ky. Mr. Higdon was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church here in Grinnell.

Rosary services were led by Rev. V.A. Walsh at the Louis E. Higdon family home south of Grinnell Friday evening at 8:15. Requiem High Mass was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 1958, at St. Mary's church with the Rev. V.A. Walsh officiating.

Pallbearers were Francis Comerford, Pierce Comerford, Gene Devereux, Leo Devereux, Paul Devereux and William Devereux. Burial was made in Calvary cemetery, Grinnell.
