CATHERINE HIDGON DIES FRIDAY EVENING; FUNERAL THIS MORNING

Mrs. Catherine Anna Higdon, wife of Louis Higdon, living 4 1/2 miles south of Grinnell, died at 8:48 p.m. Friday after an illness of two months. She had passed her 77th birthday April 19.

Mrs. Higdon was born in Washington township April 19, 1875, the daughter of Alexander and Elizabeth Hayes Devereux and was married in Searsboro in 1902. She had spent her entire life in this neighborhood.

There are eight children, Sister Mary Annette of Perry and Sister Mary Louise of Clinton, both members of the Sisters of St. Francis, James, Frank, Mrs. Keith Goreham of Des Moines, John, Joseph and Mrs. Paul Schmitz. There are ten grandchildren. There is also one brother, Wm. Devereux of Rockford.

Funeral services were held at St. Mary's church this morning, with Rev. Father Paul D. Moore conducting the mass. The Smith funeral home was in charge. Pallbearers, all nephews, were Alex Comerford, William Comerford, Leo Devereux, Paul Devereux, William Devereux and Clem Hanley. Burial was in Calvary cemetery.
