MRS. P.A. LUDWICK PASSES AWAY

Phoebe Ann Vance, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Vance was born at Greensboro, Ind., Sept. 29, 1847 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.P. Gruwell at Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock, April 17 at the age of 82 years.

She received her early education at Newcastle, Ind., where she lived with her parents during Civil War days. She was united in marriage to John W. Weeks in 1866 at Greensboro and one daughter Lore who preceded her mother in death was born to this union.

In 1872 she came to Iowa settling at Newton where she married William Ludwick, Jan. 1, 1875, and with him moved to a farm near Kellogg. One daughter, Mary, now Mrs. J.P. Gruwell was born to them. After the death of Mr. Ludwick she moved to Kellogg to make her home and served as postmistress under President Cleveland's administration.

Later she moved to Grinnell where she could give her daughter the advantages of a college education. In 1917 she went to Wisconsin Rapids to make her home with her daughter and remained there until her death.

Surviving relatives include one daughter, Mrs. J.P. Gruwell, two grand children J.P Gruwell Jr. of Chicago and Miss Perdita Gruwell at home; four step children, Mrs. Amanda Moon of Hastings, Nebr., Charles and Ida Ludwick of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Alice L. Beck of Grufer, Ia.; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Ellen Lovelace of Newton, Mrs. D.J. Vance of Des Moines, and Mrs. E.S. Shaw of New Washington, O., also two brothers, J.F. Vance of Kellogg and S.O. Vance of Hastings, Nebr.
