SILAS W. GRAY DIED ON MARCH 23 IN MARSHALLTOWN

Silas W. Gray, Grinnell resident who had been making his home at the Clifton hotel in Marshalltown the past winter, died at 12:15 Tuesday morning, March 23, at St. Thomas hospital, where he had been a patient since the previous Thursday as the result of a stroke.

He was born Oct. 8, 1860, at Davenport and when a small boy moved with his parents to a farm south of Grinnell in the Blue Point neighborhood, where he lived until his retirement in 1920, when he moved to Grinnell. He married Clara M. Spellman, who died Jan. 17, 1928, at Grinnell.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Walter Groves of Wichita, Kan., and two sons, Pvt. Farrell R. Gray of Bloomingon, Ill., and Robert R. Gray of Marshalltown; one brother, Bert Gray of Thompson Falls, Montana, and two sisters, Ida Gray, also of Thompson Falls, and Mrs. Ella Vestal of Oak Grove, Mo. He also has two grandchildren. Another daughter, Grace, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Blue Point church, in charge of Rev. Mr. J. I. LaFavre, with burial in the church cemetery.
