FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. RITCHIE CONDUCTED TUESDAY

Mrs. Verdie Ritchie, long time resident of Poweshiek county, died July 22 at the Goeke Nursing Home in Montezuma following a brief illness, at the age of 76 years, 7 months and a day.

Verdie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.U. Wise, was born at Weyer's Cave, Va., Dec. 21, 1884. She was united in marriage to William R. Ritchie in 1913 and came to Poweshiek county in 1913. To this union two children were born.

She became a Christian while a small girl and after settling in Poweshiek county, joined the Church of the Brethren, where she was an active and faithful member.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. John Whitworth, Deep River; a son, Allen Ritchie, Gibson, and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church, a mile east of Brooklyn, conducted by the Rev. Leslie Rogers. Karen Henry played and accompanied Stella and Doris Connell, who sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Beyond the Sunset."

Interment was in 16 cemetery near What Cheer, under direction of the Steffy Funeral Home. Casket bearers were Lewis McKee, Marvin Campbell, Guy Hutton, Cliff Steele, Audrey McIntosh and Philip Sanders.
