PAUL MCCONNELL

Paul J. McConnell, 86, of Grinnell died Saturday, June 9, at Friendship Manor.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ralph Menning, pastor of the Reformed Church of Sully, officiating. Organist was Rebecca Arnaman Wiley, and vocalist was Joan Gerard.

Pallbearers were Ronald Arnaman, Wilbur Baltisberger, Leonard Goeke, Edward Hatcher, Robert Hockett, Lowell Hockett, Edwin Hockett, Gary Johnston and Mark Wiley.

Burial was in Pleasant Township Cemetery, Ewart.

The son of Thomas and Anna Jeffery McConnell, he was born Oct. 11, 1903, near Ewart. He was raised on the family farm and attended rural school.

Following his education he began his career as a grain farmer and livestock buyer. He moved to Grinnell in the mid-1930s but continued to farm in Ewart, retiring in 1979.

Mr. McConnell was a member of the Ewart Presbyterian Church and had served as a church elder. He also had been a member of the Poweshiek County Cattlemen's Association and the Poweshiek County Pork Producers.

He is survived by a sister, Gladys Hockett of Grinnell.
