MRS. GEORGE BOSWORTH
Sophia E. Marsh was born in Vermont in 1833. When a child she removed with her parents to the new state of Wisconsin. In early life she became a teacher and was employed for several years in the academy at Salem, Wisconsin. There she became acquainted with Mr. George Bosworth, who was a graduate of Amherst in the class of 1854, and who was a teacher in the same school. After their marriage, they removed to Milwaukee, where Mr. Bosworth taught in a school for boys. But his failing health compelled him to leave the school room for the farm.
In 1869, Mr. and Mrs. Bosworth came to Grinnell; here they have resided since, at first on a farm west of the city, and later in town, until the death of Mr. Bosworth in August 1902, when Mrs. Bosworth removed to Tacoma where she was residing at the time of her death.
She was a woman of keen intellect and wide reading. She loved everything good, and was a quiet, but effective force in the later development of Grinnell. For thirty-five years, she was a faithful member of the Congregational church of this city, loving the sanctuary and constant in private devotion. Her face, as she grew older, seemed expressive of "sweetness and light," and she was loved by all that knew her.
Mrs. Bosworth leaves four children, Julia S. Bosworth, Walter M. Bosworth, Harvey E. Bosworth of Tacoma, Wash., and George F. Bosworth of Davenport, Ia.
