S.R. EASTER, PIONEER, DIES IN MONTEZUMA

S.R. Easter, father of E.A. Easter of this city, died at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at his home in Montezuma. If he had lived until July 19 he would have been 91 years old. Death was due to the infirmities of age.

Mr. Easter was one of the early settlers of Poweshiek county. He settled on a farm five miles northwest of Montezuma in 1868. He was born in Highland county, Ohio, and lived there until he grew to young manhood. He was married in Ohio to Sarah J. Pierce who accompanied him to Iowa. There were seven children. One, Charles E., died in early manhood. Mrs. Easter died Feb. 18, 1897. He was married again and his wife survives him. The surviving children are E.C. Easter of Barnes City, J.E. Easter of Oskaloosa, E.A. Easter of Grinnell, Mrs. Mary E. Downey of Searsboro, Mrs. Florence Gwinn of Carnforth, and J.P. Easter of Galesburg, Ill.

Mr. Easter lived on the farm until the spring of 1895, when he moved to Searsboro, where he lived until his wife's death. He moved to Montezuma about 1900 and has made his home there ever since.

Mr. Easter as widely known and universally respected. He was one of the county's stalwart, industrious men and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
