MARGARET MARSDEN

Margret Marsden, 96, of Grinnell died Monday, April 19, 2010, at Mayflower Health Care Center.

A memorial service will be held Monday, April 26, at 11 a.m. in the Carman Center at Mayflower with the Rev. Len Eberhart; pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Pianist will be Jeanette Tisdale. A graveside service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Hazelwood Cemetery.

Friends may call at Smith Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Memorials in her name may be made to the Mayflower Human Needs Fund or to Drake Community Library.

She was born March 24, 1914, in Grinnell to James and Florence Godfrey Marsden. She was raised in Grinnell, graduating from Grinnell High School with the class of 1932. Following her education, she worked as a secretary in the Grinnell school system for superintendents Rupert Hawk and Burton Holmes. In 1953 she joined Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company, working as an administrative assistant in marketing. She retired in 1982, continuing to make her home in Grinnell.

She was an active member of Rebekah Lodge #119 of Grinnell and attended First Baptist Church and Grinnell United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her nephew Robert Marsden of East Pointe, Mich., and other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Edna Kirstein, and two brothers, Frank Marsden and Ernest Marsden.
